Awarding recognition of exemplary practices for disabled people
The aim of the Positive Action Awards is to provide an opportunity for disabled people and carers living in the Northwest to nominate employers, businesses, service providers or individuals that deserve recognition for promoting independence, delivering accessible and/or inclusive services, or maintaining exemplary employment practices for disabled people and/or carers.
The Positive Action Awards are provided through a collaborative involving the Warrington Disability Partnership and key partners who are: Arena Housing, NHS Northwest and Sellafield Ltd
The winners of the Positive Action Awards 2011 were announced at a glittering award ceremony at the Halliwell Jones stadium by WIRE FM presenter Pete Pinnington. This year's awards were presented by Chair of WDP Dave Thompson MBE DL. Dave delivered an inspirational and uplifting keynote address on his personal experiences of living life to the full with a disability, including an incredible scuba diving challenge for a mile to raise funds for WDP. Dave finished his address with an overview of Warrington Disability Partnership's journey during the past 20 years.
Dave said, "Disabled people make a valuable economic contribution to our region and it is vital that we recognise this and create an environment that allows them to fulfil their potential. We had a great response this year receiving over 70 nominations which made the short listing an extremely difficult task".
